2018-2019 Discipline Plan

First Grade’s Classroom Discipline Plan
First grade is important for the academic and social development of a child. I
truly believe that this year will determine how your child views school for the next
11 years. This is why I plan to do everything I can to make this year exciting,
positive, and fun for your child so that they will develop a good attitude about
school and love to learn. I have high expectations for every child in my class, and I
know they are all capable of learning in their individual ways. In order for this to
be a successful year in all of these areas, your child must behave appropriately in
my classroom so that their learning and their fellow classmates learning is not
interrupted. I will not tolerate a student disrupting me from teaching and/or
any student from learning. The following expectations, consequences, and
rewards will be discussed thoroughly with your child until he/she understands
them.
I have 6 expectations for the students in my class:
1. Follow ALL of my instructions the first time they are given.
2. Bring your completed homework and “Homework Folder” to class every day.
3. Stay on task.
4. Talk only at appropriate times.
5. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
6. Treat others and their property, as you would like for them to treat you and
your property.
I will use a conduct chart in my class. The conduct chart has 4 colored strips.
Each day the student will start on a “green” strip. For each rule broken they will
pull a strip and points will be deducted from their weekly citizenship grade.
Students whose grade falls below a 90 for the six weeks will not be allowed to
attend BASH (see following page). The following color codes/grade deductions are
as followed:
Green= the student had a great day!
Yellow= the student has broken a rule or made a bad choice. Five minutes will be
taken away from recess.
Red=another rule has been broken or a bad choice has been made. Ten minutes
taken away from recess.
Orange= this will be the final strip they pull. It will require a visit to the principal,
lunch detention, and missed recess.
Your child will be given a weekly grade for citizenship. There will be a 5 point
deduction for each strip that is pulled throughout the week. Example: if your child
pulled three strips throughout the week, their weekly grade will be an 85.
Even though students start each day with a green strip, continued broken rules
during the course of one week may lead to an office referral or In School
Suspension (ISS). ***Any student who receives an office referral will be given
a grade of 70 for that week.
As an extra special incentive, First grade has special parties throughout the year
called “BASH”. All of the following criteria must be met before attending this
party:
1. Student has no office/bus referrals to the principal.
2. Student has a grade of 70 or above in all subjects.
3. Student has no more than four tardies.
4. Student has no more than four absences.
5. Student must have a citizenship grade of 90 or above each six weeks.
Students not attending BASH will stay at school with a teacher in a different
class.
I know each of my students is capable of all of these expectations. I plan to keep
you informed of what is going on in the classroom, and I want you to contact me if
you have any questions or concerns. I will go over this discipline plan several times
with the class during the next few weeks and will review it throughout the year.
Please read over this with your child and sign and tear off the bottom portion and
send it back to school. Keep the top portion for your records.
Thank you,
First Grade Teachers
I have read and understand the Discipline Plan for First Grade. I have also read
the plan to my child. My child and I understand the criteria that must be met to
attend BASH at the end of each six weeks.
