School Lunch Debt

The national public school meal debt is $262 million a year. Schools cannot pay off meal debts using federal child nutrition funds. The debts are written off as an operating loss. Schools, like VVISD, look to state, local, or charitable sources to try to offset the meal debt. Recently VVISD received donations for our school lunch debt. If you are a family that needs help paying your students’ school lunch debt, fill out the free/reduced lunch application and return it to the school. The application is available online and in each campus office.

If you would like to make a donation to VVISD to help with school meal debt contact Misty Price, HR Director at 940-726-3659 ext. 100.
