General Information

Medication Administration at School

The only medication that may be given at school is that which is necessary to enable the student to remain in school. If possible, all medication should be given outside of school hours.

Three times a day, medication can be given before school, after school, and at bedtime. If necessary, medication can be given at school under the following conditions:

Medications must be in the original properly labeled containers.

Medications will not be given without a specific written request signed by at least one parent, legal guardian, and physician. This request should be made on the appropriate form supplied by the school or on a form supplied by your physician.

Medications may be given by a medically untrained staff member designated by the principal.

All medications must be kept in the nurse’s office except for students whose doctor requires them to carry an inhaler with them. The privilege will be revoked if a student allows another person to use the inhaler. Another inhaler may be held in the nurse’s office.

Empty medication containers will be returned to the students at the end of the week or when the container is empty.

Refrigerated medication cannot be given at school.
